Join United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA)
It is not required to be a member of USEF/USHJA to participate in an USEF rated show. However, if you are not a member of USEF/USHJA you are required to pay a $45 non-member/breed discipline fee at each horse show. Annual membership is $80 for Juniors and $110 for Seniors. Also, Amateurs declare their amateur status when they apply for membership. An Amateur card is required to participate in Amateur Divisions.
Record your horse with, or obtain a Horse ID Number from, USEF
It is not required that you have your horse Recorded with USEF, but if a horse is not Recorded, you are required to obtain a Horse ID Number. Annual cost for Recording a horse is $75 annually (Lifetime for $200) and a $10 one time fee for a Horse ID Number (free if done electronically on USEF website). If your horse is not Recorded with USEF (only has an ID Number) it is not eligible for any USEF awards.
Mail copies of your USEF/USHJA cards in with your horse show entries
This information is available from the USEF website so you don’t have to copy your cards, you can just print a copy.
It is your responsibility to:
- Apply for the applicable memberships;
- Record your horse(s);
- Ensure information is updated when you buy a new horse, change your horse’s name (or your name!), or change status (amateur/professional); and
- Provide complete and accurate entry forms to horse show office staff.
